We are seeking to establish a diverse ecology of redemptive enterprises purposed to break cycles of poverty and marginalisation

St Basil was known as the first christian social entrepreneur.

He sought to tackle the needs of the most vulnerable in a holistic manner. This meant feeding the hungry, yes. It meant forming community, yes. It meant teaching a life of prayer, yes. It meant caring for the sick with medical help, yes. And it also meant teaching trades and starting enterprises that would help break cycles of poverty and marginalisation enabling people to stand on their own two feet and step into a life more in line with their identity as children of God. And that is what we are seeking to do here in Devon, today.

 What will this look like?

  • In some cases as a church community we will seed fund, own and run small, relational, redemptive enterprises. You can read more about our first enterprise – Holy Fool Coffee – here.

  • Offering micro-finance loans to help others start enterprises to help them get back on their feet. Read more.

  • Cultivating a distinctive, supportive community of people who want to run their own enterprises in a redemptive manner. This looks like exploring a rule of life for redemptive entrepreneurs, having gatherings to support one another and being open to the possibility of a physical space to work in and collaborate in.
