Operations Director

Senior Leadership role - helping translate vision into sustainable systems.

St Basil’s is a rural Anglican church community near Exeter, seeking to follow the way of Jesus together for the renewal of our region.

We’re looking for an Operations Director to provide strategic and operational leadership across governance, administration, projects and organisational systems - enabling the church’s mission and community life to flourish.

Role Snapshot

  • Hours: 4.5 days/week (including Sunday mornings)

  • Salary: £35,000 per annum, FTE

  • Contract: Permanent

  • Location: Near Exeter - across the scope of St Basil’s Bishop’s Mission Order (BMO)

  • Reports to: Church Leader

  • Leadership level: Associate Team (Senior Leadership Team)

What the role involves

This role integrates four interconnected threads of leadership: strategy, governance, projects and administration. You will help build robust organisational foundations for a growing and pioneering church community - combining creativity and innovation with wise governance and effective delivery.

  • Partner with the Church Leader on strategic planning and operational delivery

  • Support Trustees and ensure strong governance and compliance as a CIO

  • Provide oversight of HR processes, policies and staff wellbeing

  • Oversee delivery of whole-church events and key initiatives

  • Lead operational systems such as ChurchSuite, communications channels and finance processes

  • Line-manage and lead the operations team, supporting staff and volunteers

Who this role would suit

We are looking for a spiritually mature and committed Christian (Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010) who is a strategic thinker and strong organisational leader. You will bring relevant experience in charity, operations, project management or a comparable context, with financial confidence, high emotional intelligence and the ability to bring clarity to complexity.

You should be comfortable contributing to strategic discussions, working constructively through disagreement, and offering wise, prayerfully considered leadership.
