An adventure is coming

Church Update March 2023

By September 2023, St Basil’s will need to move off Windout Farm – our current home – and onto a new home. We’re inviting you all on a journey of faith as we seek the Lord and discern our future together.

Pete James gave a couple of short talks on the reasons for the decision and has written a condensed version of it into a letter to the church. You can find them below.

Get in touch.

We will be giving more information to the church as and when we have it and things clarify. In the meantime, if you have any questions or feel you may have a prophetic word for the church, please do get in touch.

  • Lord Jesus,

We give thanks for the humble, beautiful, occasionally hilarious beginnings of our story: for the people who have gathered; for the culture of our community; for the works you have already done in us and through us. We thank you for Windout Farm: this special first home for our church family. For the weekly sense of pilgrimage; the beauty of the land that has stirred wonder; the nights of worship; the creativity of the space; the barns and fields that have hosted our young people; the parties and events. We thank you for the Ursell family: for their generosity and sacrifice in allowing the seed of our community to be sewn on their land at significant personal cost. We continue to pray a blessing on them and their land, which will always have a significant place in our community’s story.

    In Jesus’ name,

    Amen

  • Father God,

You have called us out to be a people of faith but we acknowledge that in times of uncertainty we can so often feel fear. So help us, Holy Spirit, to stand on the promises of scripture that tell us not to fear for you are with us (Isa.41:1); that you are our Shepherd leading us (Ps.23); that you have begun a good work and will complete it (Phi.1:6); the you are for us not against us (Rom 8:31); that we can have peace beyond understanding (Phi.4); that you will never leave us nor forsake us (Deut.31:8); that you will provide for our every need (Matt 6); that you will make our paths straight when we trust you and not our own understanding (Prov.3:5). Help us put our full weight on these promises and establish ourselves on your nature so that a boldness rises in each of us as we hold to a posture of faith not fear.

    In Jesus’ name,

    Amen

  • Lord Jesus,

As we enter this time of change as a church, we welcome it as an opportunity to be shaped by you. To grow in prayer; stretch our faith; increase our surrender; deepen our unity; stir our imagination; tune our ears to the leading of your Holy Spirit; and experience the joy of following you as a community.

We are desperate to be formed more closely and deeply to your image and likeness through this time: to mature as individuals and as a community.

So Holy Spirit, come. Come and shape us: like clay on the potters wheel would you mould us!

    In Jesus’ name,

    Amen

  • Our Father in heaven,

Your name is Jehovah Jireh “The Lord Provides” and you promise in your word to provide for our deepest needs provide for our every need. You are the God who provided a goat for Abraham; manna in the desert; a way through the waters of the Jordan; who fed the five thousand; and sent your Son to the cross – and we know you will provide for us too. We trust you with our future as a Church and knock on your door to ask that you open up a way forward for our community: would you provide a new home that can root us in this land for the long haul and fully inhabit the vision you have given us in service of the community in this area.

    In Jesus name,

    Amen

A great invitation of this time is to deepen our prayer life and grow in intimacy with Jesus: to become a church more on its knees in communion with God. We have started to write a few short prayers that may help you pray.

Pray

Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wine skins.

Matthew 9:16-17
